One Breast Friends crew went to Banff and had a wonderful weekend.  The 200 metre sprints were a new event for us; our times were 54:43, 57:36 and 55:80.  In Sunday’s races we posted times of 2:20:40, 2:18:23 and 2:25:53.  Breast Friends took gold in the survivor race and came in first in the women’s consolation final.  What a beautiful setting for a festival — Lake Minnewanka!

Hurray for Sistership for providing delicious lunches and a warm welcome to our Breast Friends crew.  If only they had control of the weather too! Despite our disappointment with some of our race results, we had a wonderful weekend.  A highlight was meeting Premier Alison Redford on the dock following the Pink Flower ceremony.

Wind was a factor at this 2012 festival as well.  We raced on Saturday morning (2:27.35), but the afternoon races were cancelled because of white caps on the lake.  We did our second qualifying race on Sunday morning (2:27.29).  Then just before noon we raced in the Breast Cancer Survivor Race (2:19.34), the fastest time ever recorded by a Breast Friends crew, earning us gold.  It was a thrill to raft up with nine other survivor teams from all over BC and Alberta! Then we were in the Women’s Diamond A final (2:22.24), placing fifth.  The scenery, the Friday night party for survivors, all the great vendors, made for another amazing Penticton experience!
